Data Collection

Isle of Arran

In order to determine the biofuel potential of Arran a comprehensive list of available biomass must be complied. To this end data collection has begun and is being gathered from the following sources;

  • Timber- Forestry Commission, Arran Estate, Dougarie Estate
  • Vegetable Oil- Hotels (Auchrannie, Kinloch), Restaurants (Brodick Bar, Wine Port), Fish and Chip Shop, Richardson's Oil
  • Domestic and Municipal Waste- North Ayrshire and Arran Council, Scottish Executive, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA)
  • Farm Waste- Arran Branch of the National Farmers Association, Island Farmers
N.B. This list is not exhaustive or final.

Although a large amount of data has already been gathered, especially from the Forest Commission, much of it is still to be verified and so is not yet displayed here. As data is received and verified it will be uploaded and displayed here.

Malawi - Commercial Agriculture in Thyolo

The data to be used in the analysis of potential energy recovery from waste and by-products on commercial agriculture estates in Thyolo and Mulange, Malawi will be sourced directly from the estates themselves.  Brief contact has been made with persons involved in the industry in Thyolo and the general feedback has been positive.  The findings of this study only stand to benefit the industry and so it is expected that the participation percentage will be relatively high.
